The Minnesota Thoroughbred Association was incorporated in 1971. Our association is comprised of breeders, owners, trainers and race fans, who are a vital part of Minnesota’s Thoroughbred racing industry on a daily basis.

Our mission is to promote, educate, and support Thoroughbred breeding, ownership and racing in Minnesota and around the country.

The Minnesota Thoroughbred Association holds an annual Yearling Sale, with Minnesota-breds Preferred, each August. Minnesota-bred Yearlings are given priority, followed by non-Minnesota-bred yearlings, if space allows.  The MTA’s Yearling Sale is held at Canterbury Park with the horses being stalled in the Receiving Barn and the sale being held in the Canterbury Expo Center.

The MTA’s only fundraiser of the year is our annual MTA Stallion Service Auction, which is held annually in early January.  The stallion seasons, which are generously donated by stallion owners and syndicates, are offered online at www.thoroughlybred.com.

The MTA offers Ownership Seminars during the summer’s live race meet on a wide variety of topics. From general seminars covering the many aspects of owning a racehorse to backside experiences to specific topics, such as conformation and pedigree analysis, these seminars are offered free of charge and are open to the public.
